Medical Oncology

The Medical Oncology Department uses chemotherapy to treat cancer. This department is one of the three pillars of cancer treatment—the other two being surgery and radiotherapy. Medical oncology involves the treatment of cancer via drugs which annihilate cancer cells. The treatment aims to cure, prolong life, relieve symptoms and provide a good quality of life for the patient, subject to the degree of disease existing at discovery. In the recent past, the arrival of many new chemotherapy drugs that help in achieving these aims.
