When various drugs are used to annihilate fast-growing cancer cells or impede their progress before they extend to other areas of the patient’s body it is called chemotherapy. Nevertheless, they do cause side effects on the body as they also have an effect on normal healthy cells. There are two kinds of chemotherapy, neoadjuvant chemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy. Certain forms of chemotherapy have the ability to decrease the spread of cancer cells by restricting their growth and in turn protect other parts of the body. It may be used in combination with radiation to assist in reducing the size of a tumour ahead of a surgery. It may also be used following a surgery or radiation therapy to kill any remaining cancer cells.
Chemotherapy is administered in an efficient manner at our specialised treatment zones and the process is handled by a capable team of oncology-trained nurses who closely monitor the patient in Reliance Hospital Cancer Care - Akola. Our qualified nursing staff and chemotherapy ward take care of each patient’s individual needs. They prepare the doses prescribed by doctors at special stations, while following strict infection control practices. As the chemotherapy ward is on the ground floor it allows quick entry and exit for each patient and so minimises the overall time spent getting treatment.
