  • Reliance Hospital Announces New Cancer Treatment Centre in Akola

Akola, 3rd December 2018: In line with its commitment to forwarding Oncology Treatment in Maharashtra, Reliance Hospital announced the launch of a new Cancer Treatment Centre in Akola. The Centre was inaugurated by Honourable Chief Minister, Government of Maharashtra, Shree Devendra Fadnavis and Ms. Tina Anil Ambani, Chairperson, Reliance Hospitals. Similar cancer centres in Gondia and Solapur are set to serve the community shortly.

In August 2016 an announcement had been made to establish 18 cancer care centres across Maharashtra and the launch of 3 centres is the beginning of this journey. These centres will have state-of-the-art TrueBeam® Medical Linear Accelerators to deliver radiation therapy. This is a major expansion program in the area of cancer care across the state of Maharashtra.

Sharing her thoughts on the launch, Ms. Tina Ambani, Chairperson, Reliance Hospitals said, "In the belief that world-class healthcare should not be a privilege but the prerogative, we are delighted to take cancer care to the hinterland of Maharashtra. The opening of Reliance Hospital in Akola is the first step in this landmark mission and represents a new dawn in cancer care."

Dr. Kaustav Talapatra, National Head Radiation Oncology stated, "Cancer is one of the biggest public health challenges of our times and we are ready to tackle it head on with our medical talent and world-class technology. This precision radiation provides huge advantages in term of convenience, cost and comfort for the patient. It is the most advanced platform offering fast and precise treatments, so this program should make a significant difference to cancer treatment in the region."

Dr. Ram Narain, Executive Director said, "These Centres would be empanelled with the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, enabling eligible beneficiary families to avail of advanced cancer care treatment."

According to the National Cancer Institute, there are 12.5 lakh (1.25 million) new cancer patients reported each year in India. There are only a few comprehensive cancer centres in the country, a majority of which are situated in metropolitan areas. While the Indian Government has made cancer care a key focus area, modern equipment and a skilled radiotherapy workforce is vital to the rollout of more comprehensive cancer programmes in the country.
